Can the water in the the stone cleaning process create any damage?

DIY Floor Restoration and Cleaning FAQ

How do I make my marble shiny again?

Wipe the marble surface using a dry and soft cloth to remove dirt and foreign debris.
Use a wet non-abrasive sponge to wipe the marble surface again
Use a commercial cleaner (preferably a premium one) to spray the surface and then slightly rub it in.
Wipe the cleaner using a dry and soft cloth.
Cover the marble with some commercial stone polishing paste. (Be careful to read all the manufacturer’s instructions)
Keep the whole surface wet while rubbing in the polishing paste
Use 120 grit or above (but less than 300 grit) sandpaper to start the process
After going over the whole surface using 120 grit sandpaper repeat while using 300 grit and 600 grit sandpaper
Wipe the whole area with a damp sponge to remove all sanding dust and repeat the process until the marble is clean.
Seal the surface using a commercial sealing product.

This process can be applied on other types of stone surfaces as well.

Can I use car wax on marble?

Yes you CAN but you shouldn’t probably do it.

Car wax is designed to work on cars – hence it’s designed to make painted surfaces shine.
If you are going to use car wax on marble or any other stone surfaces, you run the risk of staining that surface.

What home remedy makes marble floors shine?

White chalk does the trick. Here’s how you should do it:

Clean your marble surface as stated above
Grind a full box of white chalk into a very fine powder
Sprinkle;e that powder over the clean surface
Buff the whole surface in circles until it looks nice and shiny
Wipe everything off with a damp sponge and dry it by using a dry and soft cloth

How do you remove scratches from marble floors?

By going over several times using the process described under How do I make my marble shiny again? and using a larger variety of sandpaper grit.

Is rubbing alcohol safe on marble?

Yes it’s safe but bare in mind that rubbing alcohol will not actually be sanitising your marble as it’s designed for human skin use.

Will baking soda damage marble?

As a standalone product: yes – it will damage marble. As a compound made out of water and baking soda, maybe not. As baking soda is abrasive, you could use it to replace sandpaper in order to give marble a good clean.

Can you vacuum marble floors?

Yes, it’s safe to vacuum marble floors as long as you are NOT using hard plastic onto marble as it could be scratching it.

Can you resurface granite?

Yes, you could do it if you we’re able to get your hands on some professional restoration machinery as granite is a very hard rock. Nowadays you can borrow such machinery from your local store. They should be able to also get your through the whole process of using this type of machinery.

How do you clean old marble slabs?

Basically you will have to use the same process as stated above, under: “How do I make my marble shiny again?”

Can I use hydrogen peroxide to clean marble?

Yes you can by mixing ammonia, baking soda or talc and some distilled water. Still, we couldn’t find a recipe that actually works, neither we would recommend mixing chemicals as hey could harm you and the ones near you.
